Preventing Social Engineering attacks
There are several ways to prevent social engineering attacks:
- Educate yourself and your employees about social engineering tactics: Knowing how attackers may try to manipulate you or your employees can help you recognize and resist these attempts.
- Develop a healthy skepticism: Be wary of unsolicited requests for sensitive information, even if they come from seemingly trustworthy sources.
- Verify the identity of the person making the request: If you receive a request for sensitive information, make sure you know who you are dealing with before you provide any information.
- Use strong passwords and don’t reuse them: Use unique, hard-to-guess passwords for each of your accounts, and consider using a password manager to generate and store your passwords securely.
- Protect your personal information: Be careful about what personal information you share online, and be sure to use privacy settings on social media accounts to control who can see your information.
- Be careful when clicking on links: Don’t click on links in emails or on social media unless you are sure they are legitimate.
- Enable two-factor authentication: Using two-factor authentication can add an extra layer of protection to your accounts by requiring a second form of authentication, such as a code sent to your phone, in addition to your password.
